Yesterday I had the privilege of working with the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on their Oscar Sundays series!

I introduced the Oscar award-winning sci-fi film Fantastic Voyage from 1966.

I've always been intensely interested in sci-fi, as it:

1) glamorizes science for the public and

2) sparks the imagination of scientists and engineers, who go forth and later build based on these inspiring visions.

Much of the amazing tech we use today was first conjured up in sci-fi movies and books.

Examples include:

-Mobile phones

-Virtual reality

-The International Space Station

-Robots and Artificial Intelligence

The movie Fantastic voyage sparked the imagination of pioneering scientists and engineers who'd later publish work in nanoscience and nanotechnology. Fields that emerged decades after the movie was released. Interesting stuff! 🤓
