Generation Z is an unprecedented group.

In many ways, Generation Z is an unprecedented group. In others, there are common themes that are pervasive throughout humanity.

Last week I spoke about the intricacies of #GenZ in Colorado to the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations audience.

A few pointers for engaging Gen Z-ers:

1) Gen Z is the most #diverse demographic in US History, 48% of Gen Z-ers identify as non-white. The subsequent generation, Gen Alpha, will be the first in US history to have a majority that identify as non-white.

2) #Authenticity is key- in approaching Gen Z-ers, don't strive to appear too perfect or too polished (ie traditional ads and television) instead, portray yourself realistically and authentically. Be yourself! Statistically, Gen-Z are more apt to financially support and share the work of companies that are mission-aligned than companies that give the best deals.

3) Gen Z, also known as #Digital Natives, are well-aware of the power they can wield with technology and social platforms. However, many recognize the downsides of living a life on social media- and are seeking refuge from a life lived almost entirely digitally in the past two years. This group is often overlooked when describing Gen Z-ers, but I believe they will be extremely influential in the coming years as #tech adoption continues to be aggressively imposed on us.

I've had the privilege of interacting with hundreds of thousands of Gen Z-ers via in person #events and educational programs. I am excited for what this young, passionate, tech savvy generation will build!
